Prosecutors: Accused Oregon bank bombers were motivated by anti-government views

Prosecutors plan to portray an Oregon father and son accused of killing two law enforcement officers in a bank bombing as motivated in part by anti-government sentiment that included jubilation at the 1995 bombing of a federal courthouse in Oklahoma City.

The indications of the strategy came at a hearing Wednesday in the case against Bruce Turnidge and his son, Josh. They are charged with murder in the 2008 bombing of a Woodburn bank that killed a local officer and a State Police bomb technician. The trial is to begin next month.

Prosecutors referred to witness statements that Bruce Turnidge pumped his fist in the air on hearing of the Oklahoma City bombing that left 168 dead and said they had "ample evidence" that his son parroted his views.
